I am a collaboratively trained lawyer specializing in family and estates matters. I am also a certified mediator and arbitrator. I believe that people should be able to understand and have a hand in the legal documents and decisions that affect them and their family’s future. I work together with my individual clients, and as a mediator, to help people achieve innovative solutions for protecting them and their family that align with their individual needs and values. Above all, my goal is to equip my clients with the knowledge and resources to understand their legal situation, and the confidence to move forward with the most reasonable option for them and their family.
Since being called to the bar, I have practiced exclusively in the areas of family and estates law, and my experience runs the gamut. I help people of all ages update existing estate plans, or draft Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Personal Directives for the first time. I also assist families with the probate or grant of administration process upon the passing of a loved one. I draft all types of domestic contracts, including cohabitation and prenuptial agreements, as well as marriage contracts and separation agreements. I have experience with contested and uncontested adoption applications, as well as various types of surrogacy agreements and arrangements. While I believe that most family law matters benefit from being resolved outside the court system, I also recognize that court is the only realistic options for some files, and have experience in both the Provincial Court of Alberta, and the Court of Queen’s Bench.
I believe in being proactive in seeking a fair and balanced outcome on files, and I work with my clients to achieve the solutions that best meet their needs, whether through the Court system or through other forms of alternative dispute resolution, whether as counsel or as the mediator. I am committed to handling all files in a supportive, timely, and cost-efficient manner.
