Litigationworks is a team-based law practice I founded in 2013. It collaborates with lawyers in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and New York State to provide clients with the unique blend of expertise needed to successfully advance their claims.
My career as a litigator began in the early 2000s when I was a founding partner in a start-up real estate investment firm based in southern Ontario, while also serving as general counsel. When a major property in the company’s mortgage portfolio burned to the ground, the insurance company covering the property, State Farm U.S., refused to honour the claim. This forced me to sue the 19th largest company in America for recovery in a six-year legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada.
There, State Farm argued for changes to the regulatory framework for property insurance that would have allowed insurance companies to double premiums across the country. In a classic David and Goliath struggle, I defied expectations and delivered novel arguments that led the Court to render a unanimous judgment in my favour; as a result, homeowners and investors were saved from paying out hundreds of millions of dollars in new premiums.
After winning this seminal case, I became involved in high-stakes regulatory work and eventually founded Litigationworks as the best vehicle for promoting the interests of my clients.
When not practising law, I continue to moonlight as a best-selling author, professional public speaker and media commentator.
